Scope and Content

The Melvina (Mel-VINE-a) Milton Williams Papers arrived in two installments. The first donation was made in 2001 and processed by Tammi Haddad. This gift contains papers that relate to the Lincolnites, an organization that unites current and former residents in good standing of Lincoln, Nebraska, and genealogy. Williams served as Chair of the By-Laws Committee of the Colorado Chapter of Lincolnites during the 1980s. The bulk of the Lincolnites material pertains to Williams's tenure on the By-Laws Committee. Box 1, Folder 7 contains a member list of Nebraska and Colorado Lincolnites. The last three folders in Box 1 (Folders 9-11) pertain to Williams genealogy.

Belen Aranda processed the second installment in 2003. There was no discernable original order for the second batch, so Aranda utilized an alphabetical method to organize obvious subjects. These subject headings include, but are not limited to, correspondence, memorandums, newspaper clippings, and the Zion Baptist Church. The materials are personal and professional in nature. They depict Williams's involvement in the church community and shed light on her activities as an employee of the Denver Public Schools and beautician in the Five Points Neighborhood. Throughout Box 2, Williams left notes and annotations on flyers, correspondence, and photographs that help the researcher determine their significance. Many of these notes are addressed to Terry, as in Terry Nelson, Acquisitions Specialist at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library.
